Last week, our Founder and CEO Pae Natwilai spoke about TRIK at Community Day in the Arc Centre in Basingstoke, hosted by COMIT. See the full article below.

Last Thursday we held our autumn Community Day at the Arc Centre in Basingstoke. About 50 people attended the event which was kindly hosted by COMIT member Link-Connect.

We welcomed one brand-new member, PHS Compliance and one returning member, Milestone Project Management Solutions.

We also had guests from thirteen different organisations:

Atikins Global, BIM & Co, Cadline, DriverNet, GeoSlan (presenting), Glidertech, Grphisoft, Opus Risk Solutions, Panasonic (presenting), Skanska, Telefonica, TRIK (presenting) and Vilicom

Gerry gave us the heads-up on future events, including a talk by NASA engineer Dr Ravi Margasahayam which was facilitated by Codegate and Oxford Brookes University in partnership with COMIT (see Gerry’s blog post about it).

Steve Slater (Chair for Construction), gave an update on the Rapid Site Setup project, which was also the subject of the Community Day workshop which was held before lunch.

Drones & Wearables

Tony Shooter (Chair for Technology) and Stuart Young also outlined the workshops on Drones and Wearables due to be held shortly at Bentley’s offices in London.

These workshops are part of the Co-Creation program being run by Process Innovation Forum with a number of industry partners (including COMIT)  in partnership with Digital Construction Week. They will be held on the 29th September (Drones) and 4th October (Wearables).

Details can be found on the event section of the COMIT website. Both workshops are by invitation only but you can register your interest online at https://www.thepif.org/co-creation.

Presentations

As usual we had a number of interesting presentations. In the morning  Sven van Duffelen from GeoSlam described and demonstrated their hand-held laser-scanner and Luke Holbrook and Scott Harden from Skanska (ably assisted by Sandeep Jain from Enable My Team), showed how they have been using Enable My Team’s solution at Paddington Station.

In the afternoon after the workshop and lunch, we had the Link-Connect Showcase. This focused on their rapid-site-setup solution the SMART-Hub, which was also on display in the break-out room throughout the day.

Ten Minute Tech Talks

To round off the day we had our usual section of ten-minute talks. On this occasion we had:

  1. Ant Chisnal from DriverNet describing an innovative and award winning solution to managing the logistics of goods transport.

  2. Pae Natwilai from TRIK describing their tool for creating 3D reports for structure inspection, solving the problems associate with managing large volumes of imagery.

  3. Peter Mayo from Ecologic who described Vcode, a more flexible, functional and secure alternative to using QR codes for electronic labelling of assets.

  4. Nick Miller from Panasonic who showed the potential uses of a tablet fitted with Intel’s RealSense camera – which has three lenses and utilises visible light, infrared light and laser depth measurements simultaneously.

More photographs and all the presentations from the day are available on the website. Many thanks again to Linked-Connect for hosting the event and to all our presenters and delegates!
